On a recent trip to Cabo San Lucas in Mexico, I was reminded of a video I was once shown of Richard Branson’s personal island in that same area. Richard Branson is the CEO of  Virgin and he takes his family and friends to this island to entertain them. This was ten years ago, and I was thinking about how great it would be to own a company and take some of my top producing people away to an island.

That was a dream of mine ten years ago, but when I started my company two years ago I didn’t know why I should wait for this to happen. That was the birth of our peak performers Cabo San Lucas trip, where every year some of our agents have an opportunity to earn a ticket to Mexico. I made the qualifications for the trip such that even a new hire would be eligible to come with if he/she performed well enough.

On the beach I saw a yacht go by and I was reminded of Richard Branson, and I started asking myself what was preventing my company from making it big. Why does an average real estate agent only sell 2 homes per year? I got to thinking and came up with some questions that you might want to ask yourself if you really want to make it big in this business.

Before I go forward, I want you to know that nothing that I say will work for you if money is your #1 focus. This industry is about service and value – these must always be your #1 concerns.

Now, I want to ask you, what is the highest commission check that you’ve ever earned? If you earned it once can you earn it twice? And if you have earned it twice can you earn it three times?

Hopefully you’re saying yes and hopefully you realize that there is no shortage of buyers out there. If you’re a lender, there is absolutely no shortage of loans. The question is, why aren’t we maximizing our potential?

I want you to answer this series of questions and then message me afterwards, because I would like to start a dialogue with you.

  1. The reality of this market is that we can do a lot of things. You can travel wherever you want and with whoever you want (are you doing this right now?)
  2. You can live wherever you want, and however you want (are you currently doing this?).
  3. You can contribute to however many people you want to contribute to (are you doing this right now?). Would you like to feed the poor or donate more money to a local church?
  4. How much do you want to earn? There is nothing wrong with making money if you have your priorities set straight.
  5. How much wealth do you want to create? If you get too caught up with just selling a house, you will forget that you need to plan much further than that – maybe 10-15 years down the road. How are you going to free yourself financially?

For your homework assignment, I want you to answer those questions and write them down in a journal. I would love to have some dialogue with you about how you’re going to accomplish these goals.

What I am going to do in these next few videos is show you things you can work on right now that will have a major impact on your business. Hopefully you will follow up and do these things, because if you are willing to do these things, you must be coachable.

When I say ‘coachable’, I mean that you must admit that you don’t know everything, and you have to find someone that does know everything and listen to what they say, and then do it. That’s what I’ve been doing all my life, and that is why I still pay 2 coaches a lot of money to show me how to do these things.
